Modernization of WI Crash

Abstract: Wisconsin Crash Report Form was updated in 2017. The previous update was in 1994. The update in 2017 not only modernized the database using state of the art web services and database structure but also the form is also 100% electronic. The crash report is also MMUCC 4 and MMUCC 5 compliant. Developed and refined the crash data model, ensuring that it is consistent with statutes, standards and the department’s business needs. Work with Law Enforcement Officers to improve data clarity and form completion efficiency. Even a 5 minute reduction in average completion time is significant when 140,000 crashes are reported by LEAs each year (˜10,000 officer hours saved). Monitor crash data for completeness and consistency. In conjunction with BOTS analysts, develop crash data extracts and reports to meet the information needs of LEAs, the DOT, researchers, regulators and the public. Identify and develop data linkages that will improve and supplement crash data. The stakeholder list was large but that made for a very successful project. This presentation will focus on implementation as well as results from the first year of data collection.
