THE NEW AND IMPROVED FHWA ROADWAY DATA IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM (RDIP)/ROADWAY DATA EXTRACTION TECHNICAL ASSITANCE PROGRAM (RDETAP)

Abstract: The New and Improved FHWA Roadway Data Improvement Program (RDIP).   In 2017 FHWA modified its Roadway Data Improvement Program.  The new approach includes conducting more data analysis of State data, specifically examining State approaches to meeting MIRE FDE requirements and more specific recommended actions for States to assist in implementing RDIP recommendations.  Attend this session to learn more about the FHWA’s revised RDIP program.

Roadway Data Extraction Technical Assistance Program (RDETAP)   The FHWA has been working to develop a program to assist State and local agencies to develop more complete roadway inventories.  More complete roadway inventories will permit States to use the various analytic tools described in the Highway Safety Manual (e.g. Interactive Highway Safety Design Model, Safety Analyst, etc.).  These analytic tools typically require more comprehensive information about roadway characteristics and the ability to integrate this information with data about crashes and traffic volumes.
